Montagsakademie - Education for Everyone and for all Ages

The idea behind the "Montagsakademie" is to offer "education for everyone and for all ages" through a series of open-access lectures by well-known scholars for the general public, thus providing an interesting insight into many fields of research, not only at the University of Graz. Each year there is a key theme, ranging from economics to social sciences to art and culture, providing listeners with a wide range of academic approaches to each topic. The lectures take place in the Aula of the University of Graz at 7:00 p.m. on 12 Mondays during the academic year. The lectures are open to everyone; registration is not necessary and the attendance is free of charge.

Since the beginning of the academic year 2004/2005, the "Montagsakademie" has been broadcast live to partner institutions throughout Styria and other Austrian provinces; attendees are able to take an active part in the discussion afterwards. To date, there have been 262 lectures and over 119,000 attendances. A streamed version of the lectures is available for viewing on the Internet. An anthology of the year's lectures was published at the end of each academic year (between 2003 and 2013).

In 2009, the Center for Continuing Education and the Montagsakademie received an award for a "Good Practice Modell in der Bildungsarbeit mit älteren Menschen" [Good Practice Model for the Education of older Individuals] from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.
